Job Description

Job Title: Composite Technician Level A

Position Type: Full Time

Reports to: Lead Technician

Supervises Others: No

Overview:

This position is for individuals with 1-2 years of wind industry experience. You will be working closely with an experienced composite technician to perform minor blade repairs and increase your knowledge of composites.

 

The position requires being on the road for 8-week periods, working with and around fiberglass and resins, operating power tools, rigging man baskets, and assisting in the repair of minor damages. You will also be expected to balance primary job duties with other assigned jobs as directed by management, moving to available work as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow directions as provided by supervisor to achieve project objectives

  • Rigging/de-rigging of suspended platform

  • Perform minor structural repairs on internal/external blade surfaces (i.e. Leading-edge-erosion, small lightning strikes, cosmetic damage, etc.) while working at heights of 300’ or more

  • Run/operate tagline system for suspended platform

  • Safety-adhere to all safety standards for self & others

  • Quality-meet or exceed customer expectations

  • Productivity-work efficiently & effectively

  • Housekeeping-maintain a clean and orderly work area

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent

  • 1-2 years of wind industry experience (composite experience preferred)

  • Experience with the safe operation of suspended platforms (Spider, Sky Climber, etc.) is preferred. 

General:

  • Physical Requirements-must be physically capable of lifting/handling 50-75lbs and climb a 60-120m ladder on a frequent basis; kneeling, crouching, stooping, twisting & bending required

  • Valid Driver’s Licenses–experience pulling a 16’+ trailer preferred

  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check

  • Work well within team dynamic

Skills:

  • Understanding of how to use mixing ratios and the ability to take accurate measurements using the metric system.

  • Familiarity with power tools (ie. grinders, sanders, Dremel, etc.)

  • Experience and knowledge of the proper handling of composite materials such as fiberglass, epoxy resins, fillers, and paints.

  • Interpersonal communication

  • Must be able to apply common sense when carrying out instructions

  • Detail oriented.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Good Hygiene.

Work Environment:

Must be comfortable working in proximity to moderate/loud noise as well as high/low temperature & humidity. Varying schedule based on weather, which may include nights and weekends.
